    after the day this video was released, i went to the field and practiced for about 30 mins. no improvements. i was throwing 20ft less. i watched it again, and something finally clicked. i went back to the field, threw my tech disc into a net, and noticed my angles were all off. i watching back the simulator and saw where i could improve messing with settings. i went back to the field, threw my tech disc, and noticed my rounding was gone and improved from an average of 61mph/1062 rpm (43 throws) to 67mph/1243rpm (12 throws). My best throw was 69.3 mph and best spin rate was 1340. I had never eclipsed 1200 rpm nor 64.4 mph. Long story short, don't give up. Your form will get ALOT worse before it gets better because you aren't fully in-sync and your body hasnt adapted fully to the change to make it a habit. I'm still not completely locked in but my accuracy suffered the first few days before it became marginally more consistent than it was for 250-300ft touch shots.. Thanks man. Keep up the good work

    New to this and with no reference through 50 or so backhands and injured my elbow. A week later still with no reference, measure my throws. Average distance around 120-130 feet with a long of around 175. Now I’ll start over with this as lesson one. You’re a great teacher and presenter of what you teach and you keep it interesting. In a few months, I’ll pop back here and note if this helped increase my distance and accuracy. Thanks

    I'm 10 months into my disc golf journey. I try to listen to my body and have added new strength training for a different body part every couple of weeks it seems. It started with my shoulder, then wrist, hip, ankle, lower back, knee, mid back, and elbow recently (elbow is likely from bad form). I'm close to 50, and I currently throw about 60% power because of all the possibilities of injuries. When I started 10 months ago I was only capable of about 30% power, so there has been progress. My buddy was out for almost 2 months because of over training, our summers are too short for something like that.

  • @SamuelB-
    @SamuelB- 3 дні тому

    This is the reason why it's so hard to improve when your body is just not keeping up with the physical demand of throwing alot. I'm currently using a knee sleeve and elbow sleeve and have only been able to throw 1-2 times a week even when using them. So this is very useful and I'm really happy with the cooperation with Finnish discgolf peeps!

    Great content about pitch count. I had to limit myself to a max of two shots per hole on a max of about 5 holes a round anymore than that and my arm starts hurting. I do have a question that I hope you could answer or make a video about: How do I fix overextending my elbow when throwing? I've watched your videos about timing and "arming" the disc. It's served me really well for hitting my lines and getting easy distance. However, sometimes, I feel like my timing is a bit off and my hand flings through before I can follow throw and and up hurting my elbow. Over the course of a round, this can be pretty painful. Do you have any tips or drills to avoid this? I'm still working on perfecting "arming" the disc, but I think this would be great content for what I think might be a common pitfall for this form. Thank you! Keep up the great content.

    I don't know how tall Mikey is but I'm 6' 2" tall with long limbs too. Another thing we have in common is over-rotating or spinning out as Josh calls it. Sometimes my lead foot will be spinning on the ball vs the heel. Those I think are what I feel the next day in my right knee

  • @JacobBellinger
    @JacobBellinger 4 дні тому

    I have experienced a lot of knee discomfort while implementing Overthrow Disc Golf's technique of forcing/shifting/pressing down my weight/pressure onto my front leg, whatever you want to call it. I am not here to argue against Overuse being the cause of this injury or say that the teachings on this channel are harmful. Obviously, this channel or myself are not responsible for your health and well-being. Do with this information what you will.

    • @OverthrowDiscGolf
      @OverthrowDiscGolf 4 дні тому

      Mikey here. Saying this is like saying, “when I throw hard my elbow hurts, therefore teaching to throw hard is harmful.” Bracing is a power mechanic. It certainly helps me and others throw harder and it certainly will result in injury if you don’t listen to your body telling you to stop. There are a lot of power mechanics that I have to worry about overdoing. You wouldn’t tell a pitcher to give up a power mechanic just because it makes his arm hurt. You train and find a pitch count so that you can preserve your body. But you don’t throw out a good mechanic just because you might be feeling pain. You might just have a weak body, like me 😂

    I feel sorry for Mikey and I wish him a swift recovery. Talking about injuries, would you consider a video on suggested stretches / workout to minimise the risk of injuries in Disc Golf. Mikey is not the only UA-camr who got an injury when practicing. Robbie C injured his arm and ended up DNF on a tournament. Pete Collins injured his arm and learned to play with his left arm. DG Spin Doctor damaged his shoulder over years of brutal forehand and had to change his forehand technic. You don’t need to play professional to get injuries. Disc manufacturer could provide instructions on recommended stretches and workout to prevent injuries.

    Ahhhh yea, dondothat😑. Try capping your throws while working on one throw each session. For an OG like me*, I'll pull out 12 putters/approachs one day and throw them only 48 times, once for each direction of the wind. Another day, maybe 10 mids makes 40 throws. 'Fairway Day' might be only 8 discs thrown 32 times. And ESPECIALLY on 'Distance Day', make sure to throw each drive separately. Plan the shot for several secs and then pay attention, maybe even write down or chart the results. Learn the max amount from each and every throw, even if it is only 6 drivers in each direction. You learn more about the discs, the shots and the wind. All while torquing/twerking the body way less. *A young player could multiply all of these numbers and still benefit.
